Sacrificial (Kurban) Animals are Guaranteed to be Anthrax Free
KENDAL (SINDO) – The District Livestock Office of Kendal guarantees sacrificial animals slaughtered for Idul Adha to be anthrax free. To prevent this disease, the Livestock Office has assigned officers to inspect sacrificial animal holding areas at several locations.
The Livestock Office applies more stringent measures for animals coming from other areas. The Head of the Animal Head Sub-Office of the Livestock Office, Diah Aning Budiarti, yesterday said that her office has assigned officers to conduct animal health inspection on sacrificial animals at several locations. Officers would go to each holding facility for sacrificial animals because animals here usually come from other areas. Before Idul Adha day, her office assigned officers to monitor animal health and on Idul Adha day, officers will inspect slaughter points.
“Animals from other areas should be treated with caution because they may harbor diseases,” she said. While in Tegal district, the District Fisheries, Marine and Livestock Office of Tegal asked citizens to watch out for anthrax. Besides anthrax, cattle, buffalos and goats are also susceptible to septicaemia epizootica, scabies, orf, and brucellosis.
The Fisheries, Marine and Livestock Office emphasized that meat, especially for sacrifice, which are positively infected by diseases mentioned above are not suitable for human consumption.” If positive for anthrax, obviously it is not to be consumed. Particularly for anthrax, the infected animals must be buried or burned,” explained drh Abdi Manaf, Head of the Animal Health Section of the Fisheries, Marine and Livestock Office, yesterday.
