Task Force for Sacrificial (Kurban) Animals
JAKARTA (SINDO) – Approaching Idul Adha day, as much as 735 people from the task force for sacrificial animal inspection is assigned to anticipate various diseases possibly suffered by sacrificial animal, some are anthrax, foot and mouth disease and mad cow disease.
These 735 people are comprised of 70 officers from the Livestock, Fisheries and Marine Office; 265 people are students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University; 50 people from the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (Perhimpunan Dokter Hewan Indonesia / PDHI); and 350 officers from the sub-offices of five districts in Jakarta.
“Officers must closely inspect cattle, buffalos, goats and sheep from West Java, Central Java, East Java, NTB, NTT and Lampung,” said the Head of the Livestock, Fisheries and Marine Office of DKI Jakarta, Edi Setiarto, yesterday.
Edi explained that other than applying strict monitoring of animal traffic from endemic areas, officers also must conduct ante mortem health inspection of animals clinically at temporary holding areas. After that, they must give a sign or sticker to holding areas that have been inspected. Post mortem inspection is conducted at slaughter points of sacrificial animals. According to Edi, control of holding areas and slaughter points for animals for Idul Adha day is in compliance with the Instruction of DKI Jakarta Governor No 180/2007.
This control involves mayors / bupatis, Head of the Sanitary Office, Head of the Economy Administration Bureau, and board of PD Dharma Jaya. Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Section of the Livestock, Fisheries and Marine Sub-Office of Central Jakarta, Imam Suhardi, said his office will check entry permits of sacrificial animals. This inspection is planned to be conducted on Thursday (20/12), seven days before Idul Adha.
“Inspection will be done concurrently in eight sub-districts in Central Jakarta, particularly in trade centers of sacrificial animals, such as in Kemayoran and Tanah Abang,” he explained. Meanwhile, to prevent anthrax in sacrificial animals, the Municipal Agribusiness Office of Bogor yesterday conducted sweeping on all animal traders. (sujoni/sucipto/haryudi)
