Livestock Office Anticipate Diseased Sacrificial (Kurban) Animals

LAHAT (SINDO) – Head of the District Livestock and Fisheries Office of Lahat, Himyar Mazani, said that his office is ready to conduct supervision on distributed sacrificial animals that are indicated to be diseased.
Even though Idul Adha Day 1428 H is still a few weeks away, his office since now has already done monitoring and routine examinations to sacrificial animal traders. “Based on our observation and data, approaching Idul Adha Day there will be approximately 200 cattle and 400 goats used as sacrificial animals,” said Himyar. Himyar also added that some of the animals were directly brought in by traders from Lampung.

The capacity of his office, explained Himyar, is only as a facilitator and supervisor of animal and meat distribution during the upcoming Idul Adha Day. “To conduct monitoring on sacrificial animal distribution, the Livestock and Fisheries Office will form a monitoring team based on the decree from the Bupati of Lahat, which will consist of the Livestock Office, Pamong Praja police, and veterinarians,” he explained.
Himyar elaborated that examination of sacrificial animals will be done on the internal organs, for example the liver, heart, intestine, spleen and lungs. One of the sacrificial animal farmers in Lahat, Muhtakim, when asked for comments said that he has long prepared animals for sacrifice, which are goats and cattle, from 3 to 6 months ago. “Cattle price as sacrificial animals for Idul Adha Day does slightly increase. For cattle, I usually sell them at a price of 5 to 7 million rupiahs per cattle, depending on their size, not their age,” he said. (CR-08)
