Madiun Caution for Anthrax

MADIUN(SINDO) – Anthrax outbreak in animals still threat the municipality and district of Madiun. Because of that, the municipal and district government of Madiun has announced a caution status for that disease.
The issue is that approaching Idul Adha 1428 H, it is estimated that sacrificial animal trade between regions will increase sharply. In the Madiun district area, areas of caution for anthrax from sacrificial animals are the border area of Madiun – Nganjuk, Madiun – Ponorogo, and Madiun – Ngawi. Officers from the Livestock and Fisheries Office will monitor and supervise sacrificial animal trafficking into the Madiun district.

From a number of animal markets, there are about 400 to 500 cattle and buffalos sold, while for goats, it could reach up to 600 to 700 goats. Head of the District Livestock and Fisheries Office of Madiun, Sulhadi Suwando, said that caution for anthrax and other infectious animal disease from sacrificial animals near Idul Adha day 1428 Hijriah is to anticipate unwanted problems.
Because, he said, a few years ago, the Wonoasri sub-district area of Madiun district once was declared endemic for anthrax because there were cases of that disease in several cattle and buffalos. Head of the Municipal Agriculture Office of Madiun, Suroto, explained that currently his office has conducted monitoring on several livestock animals, mainly goats and cattle that will be used as sacrificial animals, either those owned by citizens or those sold at animal markets.
Meanwhile, Samidjan, 68 years old, a cattle trader that usually trades at the Nambangan Lor Animal Market in Nambangan Lor administrative village, city of Madiun, said that approaching Idul Adha day, usually sacrificial animal trade, cattle and goats, will increase twofold compared to normal days. Also, a lot of these animals are from Nganjuk, Ngawi, Ponorogo, and even from Solo. (muhammad roqib)
