The emerging of new diseases is predicted to not only continue at the current pace, but there is also a possibility of increase.
Zoonoses refer to diseases that could be transmitted naturally between domestic animals or wild animals and human. Actually, within that definition there are slight differences depending on the epidemiological model of the disease.
Bagus Purnajaya from the Directorate of Animal Health, Directorate General of Livestock, Ministry of Agriculture, said that from the public health aspect, early detection of animal disease outbreaks with zoonotic potentials could be done through morbidity and mortality rates. Early detection is important in disease control, including for zoonotic diseases.
In the seminar, Bagus also said that to prevent further spread of rabies in Bali, the Livestock Service Office of Bali has conducted mass vaccination for two days, on Saturday and Sunday. This step was taken so that rabies could be prevented and it would no longer spread. (LOK)
