Tabanan Shocked by Rabies, One Person Died
Tabanan - After Badung (South Kuta) was struck by rabies, rabies has hit Tabanan. Nyoman Diadnya (55) citizen of Buahan village, Tabanan subdistrict, died due to rabies last Saturday (22/8). Nyoman was the first person to die from rabies in Tabanan.
Head of the Health Office of Tabanan, dr. I Ketut Sumiarta last Wednesday (26/8) said he has not received official lab results. But he admits to have received word from the laboratory that the victim was positive for rabies. Nyoman, who works as a construction material supplier, was bitten by a dog on April 20, 2009. He was bit at a customer’s house in Buahan village. He was hospitalized in Tabanan General Hospital and then was referred to Sanglah Hospital. This was confirmed by Director of Tabanan General Hospital, dr. Gede Wiryana Patra Jaya.
Meanwhile, Ni Nyoman Sirip (70), citizen of Jalan Rama No. 9 Pangkung Prabu, Delod Peken, Tabanan was bit by a suspected rabid dog on Tuesday (25/8) at 13.05 near her home. The dog, which was owned by a neighbor, had bitten her right toe off and ate it. The dog bit very viciously and would not release its bite until it was killed by the village people.
Sirip was brought to Tabanan General Hospital and was also immediately referred to Sanglah Hospital. But, it is still not known whether it is rabies or not. (kmb14)
