Swine Consignment Apprehended

Merak - After confiscating 2 tons of pork, the Agriculture Quarantine Agency Class II Merak in Banten apprehended a batch of swine from Bandar Lampung carried by a truck on Wednesday (13/5) afternoon. The batch was apprehended because it did not have all the required documents. The truck driver failed to show a number of required documents; a recommendation letter from the local government of the destination area and a health document from the Bakauheni Quarantine Agency.

“When we inspected it, he didn’t have all the required documents. The driver only had an animal health certificate from the source area, but he didn’t have documents from the Bakauheni Quarantine Agency and a recommendation from the destination area,” said Julia Rosmaya Riasari, Head of the Animal Section of Quarantine Agency Class II Merak.
Therefore, the batch, consisting of 40 pigs, is temporarily apprehended. The Quarantine Agency will give the owner three days to acquire all the required documents.
Meanwhile, according to the truck driver, the pigs were sent by a person in Bandar Lampung to another in Tangerang. He was only asked to deliver the pigs.
Separately, Head of the Merak Agriculture Quarantine Agency, Agus Sunanto, said supervision on the traffic of swine, pork, and its derivatives is being tightened due to the current influenza A H1N1 issue. Several documents are required if you want to transport livestock, mainly an animal health certificate from the source area and a recommendation letter from the destination area. (NTA)
