Sudden Die Off of Hundreds of Chickens in East OKU
Since Sunday (10/2) until Wednesday (13/2), residents around bridge 3 in Tanjung Kemak village of Martapura sub-district until Pracak village of Bunga Mayang sub-district in East OKU district, South Sumatera Province, complained about the sudden die off of hundreds of their chickens.
According to Ir H Nasir Hambali, Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Services Office of East OKU, his office has sent a technical team to investigate the cause of that incident. They have also taken blood samples from dead chickens for laboratory testing.
Meanwhile, Head of the Health Office of East OKU district, dr H Fauzi, suspects the chickens were dead because of H5N1 viruses. He advises citizens to immediately bury dead chickens. His office will also investigate the cause of the chicken’s death. He said that currently he has a team at field collecting data of the chickens that suddenly died.
