Sacrificial (Kurban) Animals from Bogor are Rejected

JAKARTA(SINDO) – The Livestock Sub-Office of Central Jakarta rejected sacrificial animals from anthrax endemic areas, one of them is Bogor.
This rejection was done to prevent the spread of these bacteria into Central Jakarta. The head of the Animal Health and Veterinary Section of the Livestock, Fisheries, and Marine Sub-Office of Central Jakarta, Imam Suhardi, said that they will conduct strict supervision of all sacrificial animals entering Central Jakarta.

This supervision was mainly for animals coming from anthrax endemic areas. “For sacrificial animals from endemic areas, certainly we will reject them, such as from Bogor,” said Imam Suhardi yesterday. Imam admitted that besides instituting more stringent supervision, his office will also conduct inspection on sacrificial animals sold.
For example, examination of blood samples, to know whether the animals are infected by anthrax or not. He also stated that in general, sacrificial animals sold in Central Jakarta are from Central Java and East Java.
“The number of sacrificial animals entering Central Jakarta is approximately 1000 cattle and 8000 goats,” he said. Other than examination of blood samples from those animals, his office will also inspect the entry permit document of those animals.
A similar statement was said by the Head of the Livestock, Fisheries, and Marine Sub-Office of West Jakarta, Chaidir Taufik. He said, his office will reinforce monitoring and reject animals coming from anthrax endemic areas such as Bogor. “If from other areas, such as Central Java and West Java, there is small chance those animals have anthrax,” he said.
To anticipate that, his office will reinforce monitoring and conduct inspection on all animals entering West Jakarta. “All animals entering will have a health inspection first,” he said.
Meanwhile, to anticipate anthrax, currently the District Livestock and Fisheries Office of Bogor is instituting a mass vaccination program on all sacrificial animals in anthrax endemic areas, which are 9 anthrax-prone sub-districts in Bogor District
The head of the Veterinary Public Health Section of the Municipal Agribusiness Office of Bogor, drh Arief Mukti, said that approaching Idul Adha, they will conduct census and health inspections for sacrificial animals. (sucipto/haryudi)
