Rabid Dog in Lampung Bites 13 People

Lampung - Thirteen citizens of Pesawaran district in Lampung province were bitten by two dogs suspected to have rabies, said Head of Livestock Division of the Agriculture and Livestock Service Office of Pesawaran District, Emi Yeni Erniati, in Pesawaran.
“The bite victims are now treated at the local community health center and will be sent to Abdul Moeloek Hospital,” said Emi.
She said the victims were bitten on two different days by two different dogs.

“From our investigation, we found 6 victims were bitten by one dog in Gedungtataan subdistrict and 7 other bite victims were from Way Lima subdistrict,” said Emi.
The victims’ houses were close to each other, so the rabid dog could bite them all.
“The dog was suspected for rabies because eyewitnesses said it had foam coming out of its mouth. Also, usually dogs in that area never attack humans because they are kept as pets,” she said.
But, Emi said, the dog that bit the victims was not an owned dog, but a feral dog that is often seen around the neighborhood.
Based on Data from the Agriculture and Livestock Service Office of Pesawaran, Punduhpidada, Padangcermin, Gedungtataan, Way Lima, and Kedondong subdistricts are endemic for rabies.
From all 13 victims, 7 were bitten in Tanjung Ayun, Margodadi, and Way Harong village in Way Lima subdistrict, and 6 were bitten in Taman Sari, Wiyono and Kebagusan village in Gedungtataan subdistrict. (*)
