Provincial Government Stops AI Vaccine Support

CILACAP(SINDO) – Aid of vaccines from the provincial government of Central Java for poultry vaccination, which is used to strengthen the immunity system of poultry to prevent Avian Influenza virus infection, is stopped this year. “This year, Cilacap district no longer receives vaccine support. The same is also for other districts. Aid is more focused on distributing disinfectants for application of biosecurity measures,” said Head of the Agriculture and Livestock Services Office of Cilacap district, Anton Santosa, yesterday.
Implementation of biosecurity measures is considered more effective in preventing the spread of AI virus. Also the cost is cheaper because in biosecurity the focus is the environment, individual birds. Thus the expense is cheaper because one dose of vaccine is 700 rupiahs and at least two to three times vaccination is needed.

Meanwhile, Head of the Facilities and Infrastructure and Protection Section of the Agriculture and Livestock Services Office, Sino Sutrisno, said that even though vaccine support has been stopped, the district government still allocated budget to purchase AI vaccines, but the amount is not too large, only 30,000 doses.
Sutrisno said that the biosecurity implemented is by spraying disinfectant to poultry houses, but in this program it is also important to not release poultry out of their houses. (nugroho purbohandoyo)
