Poultry Smuggling Intercepted

GILIMANUK – An effort to smuggle hundreds of poultry on Tuesday (13/5) night through the Gilimanuk Crossing Terminal in Jembrana was successfully prevented. About 287 roosters, 7 muscovy ducks, and 20 guinea pigs and rabbits were confiscated by officers of the Gilimanuk Animal Quarantine and KP3. The owner of those animal, Haris, age 24, from Bangsalsari village in Jember was arrested. Head of the Gilimanuk KP3, AKP I Nyoman Suparta, along with Jembrana Police Chief, AKBP I Nyoman Astawa, said that they had received information from Quarantine officers that a certain green truck will try to smuggle birds through Gilimanuk at around 1 AM on Wednesday (14/5).

 

“Officers on duty in post two stopped the described truck at 11 PM on Tuesday (13/5),” he said.
Chief of Gilimanuk Animal Quarantine Work Area, I Putu Gede Widiarsa, together with Head of Ngurah Rai Class I Animal Quarantine Agency, I Ketut Diarmita, said that the poultry owner has violated Pergub (Governor Decree) No. 44/2005 on Temporary Ban of Live Poultry Importation into Bali. He has also violated UU (Act) No 61/1992 and PP (Government Regulation) No. 82/2002 on Animal Quarantine. “We will test the poultry using rapid tests fro avian influenza. But, regardless of the test results, because the poultry are banned products, they will be destroyed,” he said. (nom)
