Pontianak Rejected 175 kg of Meat from Jakarta
PONTIANAK – The First Class Animal Quarantine Station of Pontianak has intercepted 175 kilograms of meat from Jakarta. The meat was without legal documents and was brought through the Supadio Airport of Pontianak by an expedition company.
“The meat [175 kg] was in five packages, consisting of chicken and beef,” said Head of the First Class Animal Quarantine Station of Pontianak, Wisnu Sutomo, in Pontianak on Friday.
Wisnu said that all the meat have been returned to its area of origin. Other than that, 15 animals without quarantine documents from their original area were also destroyed and 6 poultry were declined entry.
He considers that West Kalimantan has unique characteristics in dealing with animals without quarantine documents. “We have socialized about it many times and have also destroyed animals without documents, but it turns out that people keep on trying,” he said.
In 2007, the First Class Animal Quarantine Station of Pontianak have destroyed 248 poultry, 33,750 quail eggs, 16 rabbits, 198 kilograms of processed chicken meat, 53 packages of cheese, 12 packages of butter, and one package of ham.
He added that one of the bases of these rejections was the West Kalimantan Governor Decree Number 359 year 2005 regarding the Ban on Importation of Poultry, Swine, and Its Products into West Kalimantan. (ANT/ABI)
