Milk Supply from Farmers Up 100 Percent

Bandung — The volume of milk received by Frisian Flag from local farmers is 100 percent more compared to 10 years ago. Currently Frisian Flag receives almost 400 tons of milk per day, while in the year 2000 the supply was only 200 tons.
Trade Marketing Director of Frisian Flag Indonesia, Hendro H Poedjono, on Friday (19/11/2010) said that most supply comes from West Java, around 250 tons per day.
“As it is, we are partners with around 10,000 local dairy farmers in West Java. The farmers are in Bandung, West Bandung, and Subang districts,” he said.

After West Java, there is East Java with 80 tons of milk per day and Central Java with around 60 tons of milk per day. In total, Frisian Flag sells about 1.5 million liters of milk every day; all for domestic distribution. Even though the volume increased, Frisian Flag is strict regarding milk quality.
“There are standards, for example if the milk sent to us is spoiled, Frisian Flag won’t buy it. When the milk arrives at the factory, the temperature must no exceed 4 degrees Celsius. It is to improve our quality,” said Hendro. They are also conducting research to improve the price of milk.
The bacterial content could also be suppressed. If necessary, said Hendro, the company can ask the Dutch government for aid. “If the cooperative does not have a cooler because it is too expensive, for example, it can be aided,” said Hendro.
Cooperatives in several regions, such as in Pangalengan and Lembang in West Java, and Boyolali in Central Java, has received such aids. Hendro added that dairy farmers under the care of Frisian Flag in regions around Merapi are unaffected by the mountain’s eruption.
“Milk supply is going as usual and the farmers are grateful that they are not affected by Merapi Mountain’s eruption, said Hendro. (Dwi Bayu Radius)
