Implementation and Socialization of The National Strategic Plan and Action Plan on Avian Influenza Management in Wild Birds in Indonesia
The National Committee for Avian Influenza Control and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (KOMNAS FBPI) on Saturday, December 12, 2009, held a seminar themed “Implementation and Socialization of the National Strategic Plan and Action Plan on Avian Influenza Management in Wild Birds in Indonesia” in Bogor. The event was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB), Veterinary Public Health Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Head of the Species and Genetic Conservation Subdirectorate of the Conservation and Biodiversity Directorate from the Directorate General of Animal Protection and Conservation - Ministry of Forestry, Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI), Indonesian Ornithologist Union (IdOU), Yayasan Kutilang Indonesia, Wetlands International, and other guests.
In the session 1, KOMNAS FBPI Heru Setijanto explained about the “National Strategic Plan and Action Plan on Avian Influenza Management in Wild Birds in Indonesia”. Afterwards, Yayasan Kutilang Indonesia and IdOU, representated by Ige Kristanto, delivered a presentation on “Guidelines for AI Monitoring in Waterbirds and Waterfowl”. Then Wetlands International and FAO, represented by Yus Rusila Noor, delivered a presentation on “Guidelines for Wild Birds and Avian Influenza, Introduction to Applied Field Research and Sample Collection Techniques”. In session 2 the seminar was continued with updates on AI surveillance on wild birds delivered by Dewi M. Prawiradilaga from LIPI with “Implementation on Surveillance of Avian Influenza Viruses in Wild Birds”, M. Indrawan from IdOU, and Dewi Elfidasar from Al Azhar University with “Avian Influenza Surveillance in Pulau Dua Wildlife Sanctuary in Serang, Banten province.
