Hog Cholera Outbreak in Pigs in West Kalimantan

At least 100 pigs in West Kalimantan have died from classical swine fever caused by the hog cholera virus (HCV). This disease has infected pig farms in two districts. Unfortunately government stock of free vaccine available at the Animal and Livestock Service Office of West Kalimantan is only enough for 5.5 percent of the total pig population in West Kalimantan.

“Hog cholera, which causes the death of hundreds of pigs, attacks twice a year during the shifting of seasons. This disease only affects pigs and does not infect humans,” said Head of the Animal and Livestock Service Office of West Kalimantan, Abdul Manaf, in Pontianak on Monday (22/9). (why)
