A-H1N1 Infects 18 Provinces

Jakarta - Until August 2, 2009, influenza A H1N1 has infected 18 provinces in Indonesia. Meanwhile, in several regions, new suspects and positive patients continue to be submitted. Infected provinces are Bali, Banten, DI Yogyakarta, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, Riau Islands, North Sulawesi, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Jambi, Riau, Central Kalimantan, and Lampung.

Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health from the Ministry of Health, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, added that new positive cases came from Central Kalimantan and Lampung.
Since it was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on June 11, 2009, by July 27 as much as 134,503 cases of influenza A H1N1 had been reported worldwide.
In West Kalimantan province, one patient of Soedarso Regional General Hospital in Pointianak, initialed L (19), citizen of Pal XI, Sungai Kakap subdistrict, Kubu Raya district, was confirmed positive for influenza A H1N1 on Monday (3/8). L is the first positive case in West Kalimantan. L is currently receiving intensive care in the isolation ward.
According to Head of West Kalimantan Health Office, Subuh, the patient previously worked in Kuching, Serawak, Malaysia, and had just recently returned to Kubu Raya on July 28. At the border office in Entikong, Sanggau district, she was detected by officers for flu like illness.
The West Kalimantan Health Office is currently tracing relatives and other people who had contact with the patient to prevent further spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, hundreds of students at Muhammadiyah I Sidoarjo Elementary School in East Java who were infected by flu last week are starting to receive health treatment from the Health Office of Sidoarjo district. The disease had spread so quickly because the classrooms are closed rooms. Sick students are advised to use masks to prevent the disease from spreading. Previously, school had been closed for two days.
In Baliase village, Marawola subdistrict, Sigi district, a citizen named M Safar (59) is currently hospitalized in Undata Hospital in Palu as an influenza A H1N1 suspect patient. Safar had been suffering from fever, nausea, vomiting, and coughing.
In Denpasar, Bali, hundreds of student from 1,138 students of Cipta Dharma Elementary School had suffered from flu for the last week. Due to concerns from teachers and parents, the school is closed for 4 days, starting from August 1 until August 5, 2009.
In North Sumatra, 321 students in Darul Arafah Muslim School in Kutalimbaru subdistrict, Deli Serdang district, had suffered from respiratory infections for the last three days. Health official are localizing sick students in special wards. (Kompas Team)
