Government Unable to Aid Poultry Farmers
Sukabumi - The district government of Sukabumi has expressed its inability to help poultry farmers in providing transportation vehicles for poultry carcasses. The reason is because special allocated funds are not meant for such purposes.
While on the other hand farmers need vehicles because DKI Jakarta as the largest poultry market will soon implement healthy bird market policies starting April 2010.
Head of the Livestock Service Office of Sukabumi, Asep Sugiyanto, on Tuesday (9/2) said that in the beginning the government has allocated budget from special allocated funds (DAK) to buy vehicles with cooling facilities. “After consultation, it turns out that DAK could not be used to buy vehicles with cooling facilities. I have submitted a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture to revise the implementation guidelines and technical guidelines so DAK could be used,” he said.
Vehicles with cooling facilities are very needed by farmers because through Regional Regulation No. 4 Year 2007, the Provincial government of DKI Jakarta will start implementing healthy bird market policies, one of which is prohibiting the entry of live birds into Jakarta.
The policy aims to minimize Avian Influenza virus transmission. (aha)
