Bali Safari and Marine Park Has Successfully Bred Lions

Just opened in October 2007, Bali Safari and Marine Park of Gianyar had already succeeded in African lion conservation.
The Bali Safari and Marine Park (BSMP) in its publication said that three lionesses each delivered a lion cub, two female and one male. All cubs are in good health. A female cub named “Chibi” was delivered on November 16, 2007, and a male cub named “Bima”, born in December 26, 2007, is now still cared at the park’s animal hospital.

The nursing and care of the two lions are done by BSMP keepers under the supervision of two veterinarians. To maintain the cubs’ health, the hospital gave wambaroo milk at first and then meat when the cubs were 2 months old.
Another female cub, born on Sunday, January 6, 2008, was named “Olga”. The name was taken from a model and presenter, Olga Lidya, whom visited the park recently.
Birth of the three lion cubs added the collection of the BSMP, which collects about 400 animals of 80 different species. This park also is continuing their an ex-situ breeding program which is one of the Indonesian Safari Park’s program other than supporting research and recreation. (Ant)
