Another Outbreak of Bird Flu
Bird flu viruses once again attacked Polewali Mandar district in West Sulawesi, more specifically in Banua Baru village in Wonmulyo sub-district and Lantora administrative village in Polewali sub-district. The Agriculture and Livestock Office of Polewali Mandar admitted having difficulties in controlling the spread of the disease because citizens refused elimination of chickens. The bird flu case in Banua Baru was known after 70 chickens owned by local citizens died suddenly in the last five days. After receiving this information, the local Agriculture and Livestock Office collected samples from those dead chickens yesterday.
According to the bird flu mitigation staff of Polewali Mandar, Isnaniah Bagenda, based on test results in Banua Baru, those chickens died of bird flu. “From rapid tests, it has been known that chickens in this village are infected,” she said. To confirm their suspicion, organ samples from dead chickens were collected and sent to the Maros Disease Investigation Center, South Sulawesi. (M-FH/N-4)
