All Chickens Eliminated After [Bird Flu] Patient Died

After hospitalization since Thursday (10/1) in Persahabatan Hospital in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, YF (16), the bird flu patient from Bekasi finally died on Tuesday at 15:30 WIB. Before her death, her conditions have improved for some time. But, nearing the end she continued to worsen.
YF, who was a citizen from neighborhood unit RT 03 RW 01 of Kayuringinjaya administrative village in South Bekasi sub-district, is the fifth victim in Bekasi city since 2005. From records of the Municipal Health Office of Bekasi, the 4 bird flu positive patients who died were in year 2006.

According to YF’s father, Supandi, his youngest daughter had fever since December 31st, 2007, and was taken to a doctor before hospitalized in Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Bekasi. Previously she had consumed 3 half-cooked eggs.
With the death of YF, at least 3 other neighborhood units in community unit RW 01 in Kayuringinjaya; which are RT 03, RT 05, and RT 07; were declared endemic for bird flu. Public health and veterinary public health officers from the Municipal Public Economy and Cooperative Office of Bekasi plans to eliminate all poultry in the 3 neighborhood units mentioned above.
This plan was made because results from rapid tests conducted by veterinary public health officers on last Thursday indicated that many poultry owned by citizens were positively infected by AI virus. These poultry comprises of chickens, ducks, Muscovy ducks, and birds.
Yesterday, after socialization on bird flu prevention in the Kayuringinjaya administrative village office, Head of the Veterinary Public Health Division, Edi Kadarusman, said that poultry elimination is done to break the chain of bird flu transmission. “We will try to provide indemnity,” said Edi. The Municipal Health Office of Bekasi also has distributed Tamiflu to citizens living near YF’s house. (COK/ARN)
