Rabies Education in Jampang Tengah Subdistrict, Sukabumi District

Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies(CIVAS) in collaboration with the Livestock Service Office of Sukabumi District and Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) is conducting rabies education in schools and the hunting dog community in Jampang Tengah subdistrict, Sukabumi district. The program is for a year, starting from December 2009 until December 2010. Jampang Tengah subdistrict was targeted for the program because there were many cases of rabid dog biting and human victims in 2008. The program is expected to set Jampang Tengah subdistrict as a model for rabies mitigation in other subdistricts.

National Program “Healthy Farmer Healthy Livestock”

On Friday, February 5, 2010, the national program “Healthy Farmer Healthy Livestock” was launched at the farmland of the Sukabumi Native Chicken Farmer Association (Kepraks) in Tenjolaya village, Cicurung subdistrict in Sukabumi district. The program is collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture and is supported by Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS), which in 2006 - 2008 had collaborated with Kepraks in conducted researches on Avian Influenza (AI) control in local poultry.

Livestock Industry Contributes to Global Warming
Global warming, climate change, and the greenhouse effect are words we often hear in the last couple of years. We are all experiencing those conditions now. Lately livestock industry was also said to contribute to the elation of global warming, climate change, and greenhouse effect. Is it true? To reveal the facts, Hutami Pudya from Jurnal Bogor had interviewed Tri Satya Putri Naipospos, DVM, M.Phil, Ph.D, from Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) whom currently works for FAO of The United Nations.

Seminar on the Role of Forensic Medicine in the Veterinary World

forensic seminar On Saturday, October 17, 2009, the Wildlife Interest Group from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB) and the IPB Branch of the Indonesian Veterinary Student Association (IMAKAHI) held a seminar titled “The Role of Forensic Medicine in the Veterinary World” at the auditorium of the Research Institute for Veterinary Science (BBALITVET) in Bogor with CIVAS as one of its sponsor. The seminar was attended by over 120 participants, mostly veterinary students and veterinarians.

Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association 2nd National Assembly of 2009

On August 7 - 9, 2009, the 2nd National Assembly of the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) was held at Maharaja Hotel in Jakarta. Attending the Assembly were officers of the Central Office, officers of all Branch Offices throughout Indonesia, delegates from Non-Territorial Organizations, the Council of Veterinary Education (MP2KH), the Association’s Honorary Council, and other guests.  Goals of this Assembly were to strengthen professional organizations related to Act No. 18 year 2009 on Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, to socialize results of MP2KH meetings, to prepare the implementation of the national veterinary registry system (STR-V), to consolidate the organization, to improve services for members, and to prepare materials for Congress XVI of 2010.

Strengthening Indonesia’s National Biosecurity Capacity through Veterinary Epidemiology: AusAID Australian Leadership Awards Fellowships (ALAF) programme

This training was collaboration between the Australian government (AusAID Australian Leadership Awards Fellowships) and the Indonesian Association of Veterinary Epidemiology (AEVI). There were 15 training participants in the beginning but unfortunately approaching departure 1 person could not participate. Participants were epidemiologists from various regions in Indonesia. There were 5 representatives from Disease Investigation Centers in Medan, Lampung, Yogyakarta, Bali, and Banjar Baru, one participant from the Quality Control and Animal Drug Certification Agency (BPMSOH) in Bogor, one participant from the Veterinary Pharmacy Center (Pusvetma) in Surabaya, 2 participants from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB), one participant from the Livestock Service Office of Badung District in Bali, and 3 people from the Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS), a non-government organization. The training was held from June 22 until July 12, 2009.

Global Vets 2009 Visit in South East Asia (Indonesia)

From May 25 until June 5, 2009, students from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada, came to CIVAS through a program called Global Vets 2009. The students were Matthew Allen, Ryan Aguanno, Amanda Breur, and Gillian Park; forming Southeast Asia Team 2. Global Vets is a program developed by the Ontario Veterinary College. It is offered to students interested in investigating animal health in developing countries such as Botswana, Chile, Gambia, East Africa (Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi), Southeast Asia 1 (Thailand), and Southeast Asia 2 (Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand). This program was started in 1997 by two second year students of the Ontario Veterinary College and was based on a program called Defi Vet-Monde from the Faculte de Medecine Veterinaire, University of Montreal Canada.

National seminar "The Effect of Environmental Damage on Wild Bird Migration Pattern and Animal Disease Spread by Wild Birds in Indonesia”On Saturday, May 23, 2009, the Wildlife Profession Interest Group of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University (Himpro Satli FKH-IPB) held a national seminar on “The Effect of Environmental Damage on Wild Bird Migration Pattern and Animal Disease Spread by Wild Birds in Indonesia” with CIVAS as one of its sponsors.
The seminar presented 3 speakers; Prof. Dr. Ir. Ani Mardiastuti, MSc (Faculty of Forestry, Bogor Agricultural University), Dewi Elfidasari, SSi, MSi (Faculty of Biotechnology, Al Azhar Indonesia University), and Joost Philippa, DVM, PhD (Wildlife Conservation Society). Moderator for the seminar was Drh. Albertus Teguh Muljono from CIVAS.
