Master Training on Risk Analysis for Invasive Aliens Species: Fish and Animal

Worldwide live animal trade plays a large role in moving animal species to various parts of the world, including Indonesia. This development enables the introduction of alien species into the ecosystem of a country. Such introduction must be controlled because it could cause degradation of the native ecosystem and spread animal and human disease globally. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) requires every country, including Indonesia, to prevent the introduction of alien species that can threaten the ecosystem, habitat, and native species, commonly known as Invasive Alien Species (IAS).

National Seminar on “Ecohealth Approaches in the Control of Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases”

Seminar Ulang Tahun CIVAS ke 5Bogor 8 Januari 2011. In celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS), CIVAS held a National Seminar on “Ecohealth Approaches in the Control of Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases”. The seminar was aimed to introduce and disseminate the concept of ecohealth to various people in the animal health and public health sector, starting from policy makers, plan developers, researchers, academicians, and animal health and public health practitioners.

CIVAS 4th Anniversary Half Day Seminar

Pembicara Seminar Globalisasi, Perubahan Iklim dan Penyakit HewanOn Saturday, January 16, 2010, Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) held a half day seminar in Bogor in celebration of CIVAS’ 4th anniversary. The seminar was titled “Globalization, Climate Change, and Animal Diseases” and presenting in the seminar were Drs. Haneda Sri Mulyanto, MAS, Assistant Deputy of Climate Change Effect Control from the Climate Change Mitigation Division of the Ministry of Environment with “Climate Change and Its Effect to Indonesia”, RP. Agus Lelana, DVM, Sp.MP, MSi, lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University with “The Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Act in Addressing the Challenges of Globalization and Climate Change”, and Tri Satya Putri Naipospos, DVM, M.Phil, Ph.D from Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) with “The Effect of Climate Change on Animal Diseases”.

Detection of Avian Influenza Virus in Poultry Collecting Facilities (PCFs) in DKI Jakarta

One study currently ongoing in CIVAS is a study on the Detection of Avian Influenza in Poultry Collecting Facilities (PCFs) in DKI Jakarta. The study is now entering its 5th month. It was designed based on previous studies in 2007 and 2008 where samples from 192 dead sentinel found 95.31% of the samples positive for H5 with rt-PCR tests. Also in the previous study, 32 of 38 (84.2%) PCFs studied were AI infected or in other words H5 AI viruses were found present in 84.2% PCFs studied.

Field Activity of Longitudinal Free-range Duck Study in Tangerang District

Blood SamplingStarting from October 2009, CIVAS will conduct a study on free-range duck farms in Tangerang, Subang, and Indramayu district for 6 months. This study was conducted based on the results of a study by CIVAS and FAO in 2006 on free-range duck farming systems in Indonesia and in response to the results of a study conducted by CIVAS in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB) and Colorado State University (CSU) in 2008 on the detection of Avian Influenza virus in free-range duck farms in Indonesia.

Seminar On Avian Influenza Field Trial Vaccination Study Report

On August 18, 2008, a seminar was held on Avian Influenza (AI) Field Trial Vaccination Study Report in Lido, Bogor district. The study was collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, the Livestock Service Office of Sukabumi district, Wageningen International, and Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS). The seminar was attended by representative of the Animal Health Directorate, Ronny Mudigdo, DVM; representative of the Veterinary Research Institute (Bbalitvet), Abdul Adjid, DVM, MS; Head of the Livestock Service Office of Sukabumi district, Ir. Asep Sugianto, MM and staff; representatives from Wageningen International, Ivo Classen and Annemarie Bouma; and guests from vaccine manufacturer PT. Medion, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and from farms involved in the two year study on AI field trial vaccination.

Scientific Discussion on Swine Influenza

peserta diskusi ilmiah swine influenzaOn Saturday, May 16, 2009, Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS), IPB branch of the Indonesian Veterinary Student Association (IMAKAHI), and Student Executive Body (BEM) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB) held a Scientific Discussion on Swine Influenza at the campus of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University in Darmaga. The discussion was attended by almost 200 participants; most of the participants were veterinary students from the faculty. Speakers in the discussion were Dr. Drh. Surachmi Setiyaningsih, MS from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University and Dr. Drh. Darminto from the Research Institute for Veterinary Science (Bbalitvet) Bogor.

CIVAS 3rd Anniversary Celebration - Seminar

To control zoonotic diseases in Indonesia, all stakeholders involved, including the medical profession, veterinary medical profession, public health field, and even the general public must raise concern and awareness on the importance of integrated collaboration for this issue. Therefore, to support such practices, Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) has held a Seminar titled “One Health Concept to Overcome Zoonotic Diseases” at Istana Ballroom, Hotel Salak The Heritage Bogor on Saturday, December 20, 2008.
